Sacolão sacked after 40 years

Sacolão at Rua Desembargador Homero Pinho in Rio Pequeno which started circa 1983, by Mario Covas, appointed mayor by governor Franco Montoro from 11 May 1983 through to 1st January 1986 - has finally been demolished to make way for SUS expansion in the area. 

Sacolão da Prefeitura as it used to be known - was leased by a private operator after a few year. It was in business for 40 years from 1983 to (almost) 2023. It was closed by the end of 2022 and started being demolished by January 2023. 

What's left of Frios (delicatessen store) that used to be run by a father, mother and a grown up son. I used to buy tofu and cheese from them. Unfortunately, I don't remember their names.

This used to be the main entrance to Sacolão Rio Pequeno.

Rua Desembargador Homero Pinho is a one-block street which starts at Avenida Escola Politécnica and ends at Avenida Rio Pequeno.

From Rio Pequeno to Jd. Barbacena in Cotia on 10 July 2021

 

João Luiz, his mother Rosangela and Myself wait for a Cotia bus at the stop on Rodovia Raposo Tavares km 14 to take us to pay a visit to Lucio, on a sunny Saturday morning. We were told by Lucio to take a Jardim Barbacena bus... but talking to people waiting at the stop, we realized there was NO bus with such a name. The lady next to Rosangela (looking away) told us the right bus would be Jardim do Engenho, and she was right on! 

But as we were waiting in vain for more than 40 minutes we were persuaded by a van-boy to take his van to km 25 and then take a local Jardim Barbacena bus to our destination. And that's what we did. 

But now, searching at the internet I realize the lady was spot on: the EMTU inter-municipal blue bus 334 leaves Metro's Morumbi Terminal bearing the name Jardim do Engenho and goes straight to where Lucio lives... Next time we'll be wiser...

Jardim Barbacena bus we took at km 25 rides back to km 21, turns right on Rua Monte Alegre and goes all the way to Rua Alfa at Jardim Barbacena, where Lucio lives. There go Rosangela carrying a green bag and João far ahead.

After walking on Rua Monte Alegre for half-an-hour Rosangela finally  enters Estrada dos Galdinos which ascends a hill;  see the entrance to Condomínio Bosque dos Esquilos on the left-hand side.

Rosangela finally gets to Rua Alfa, the street where Lucio lives. 

'Oh, My God, look how steep Alfa Street is!'  It took quite a while for Myself & Rosangela to climb such a hill... João had already arrived at the destination by now...

'Ninguém merece subir essa ladeira...' 

On our ardous way up there was this beautiful gate at a house on the left-hand side...

Rosangela & João Luiz paid a visit to Lucio on 21st March 2026, a Saturday afternoon. Rosangela had worked in the morning and came by Rio Pequeno where she met João who had been working at Avenida Faria Lima. Around 3:00 pm they left for Jardim Barbacena to see what actually had happened to Lúcio.

On Thursday, Rosangela had received a call from a woman from Cotia who knows Lucio and said he was in 'dire straits' but she could not tell details on the telephone. The woman offered Rosangela a lift to Cotia on Friday after she finished working at USP but she failed to appear. 

So, on Saturday, both Rosangela & João took a Cohab Raposo Tavares here at Rio Pequeno to such a highway and from there took an inter-city bus to Jardim Barbacena, in Cotia, where Lucio lives. In the end, Lucio was okay, and said the woman must be crazy or something... Happy Ending.
